This blog post holds a special place in my heart. Besides the fact that we always have a great time when we visit Mexico, this is also the place where we will be starting our worldwide adventure this July.
During the summer of 2008 believe it or not we visited Playa del Carmen TWICE in a span of 3 months. First, we went for a friend’s wedding and second, for a mini family vacation. At the time a popular low cost Mexican airline called Viva Aerobus was operating nonstop flights to/from Cancun for as little as $150 round trip. Good thing we took advantage of it because sadly the flights were discontinued later that year.
While in Mexico we enjoyed what is typical for most American tourists except for one thing. The day we headed to Xel Ha we decided to try out the local transportation in Mexico known as Colectivos. They are what the locals use to get around. They operate in a hop on/hop off sort of fashion and you negotiate payment up front with the driver. Although I was a bit skeptical since we jumped on near the highway by our All-Inclusive resort, it sure beat paying the inflated tourist cost to get to Xel Ha.
